16x Allium - Mix 'The Purple Box' purple

Allium
Fun with tulip bulbs!
A box full of beautiful purple! The allium 'The Purple Box' (Allium) enchants the garden with its beautiful spherical flowers on long stems. In the box you'll find Allium Albopilosum, Allium Violet Beauty, Allium Purple Sensation and Allium Mount Everest. Plant the bulbs in the autumn in well-drained soil. The flowers will bloom in the spring. You can plant the bulbs in the open ground or in a decorative pot. In a pot, the flowers are not resistant to frost. In that case, it's best to bring the pot inside or protect the plant with bubble wrap. When planting in the open ground, maintain a planting distance of three times the width of the flower bulb. Plant the bulb the depth of three times the bulb's height. Put the flower bulbs in the sun or partial shade. Water once a week. Remember to add extra water during dry periods.

How we measure

We measure the diameter of the bulb. A bigger bulb contains more food for longer flowering and a stronger plant.

Planting+

What do I need?

  • Small spade or bulb planter
  • Watering can
  • Fresh potting soil and hydro grains (for pots or planters)

How do I plant the Allium?
It’s best to plant the Allium as soon as possible after receipt. Plant it directly into the ground, in a flower pot or in a spacious planter. The Allium grows best in loose, well-drained soil. A sheltered spot in the sun, semi-shade or in the shadow will do just fine.
The Allium should be planted at a depth of 3 times the height of the bulb. For instance, if the flower bulb is 5 cm high it should be planted at a depth of 15 cm. The distance between small bulbs is 5 - 8 cm and 10 - 15 cm between larger ones.

Planting can be done in spring as well as in autumn. Use a small spade or a special bulb planter for planting. Plant the bulb with the tip up and the roots down.

Planting the Allium in the garden
Find a suitable place in the border or create a flowerbed. Loosen the soil well and divide the flower bulbs across the surface. That can be done in groups of 6 or spread out evenly. Plant the Allium as indicated above, water immediately, and don't walk on the freshly planted area.

How do I plant the Allium in a pot or planter?
Put a layer of hydro grains on the bottom of a decorative pot. Place the flower bulb in the potting soil at the right depth. Water immediately after planting. It's best to put the pot inside in winter, as a tulip in a pot doesn't cope well with frost.

What do I need?

  • Watering can

How do I care for the Allium?
The Allium doesn't require a lot of care. Water well during dry spells. Make sure the soil doesn't become too moist. Remove dead flower stems so all the energy goes to the bulb. Clip off the Allium's leaves once they turn yellow. Cover the soil with a layer of leaves during frost.
