A harbinger of spring!
A flower to admire! These small snowdrops (Galanthus woronowii) are the first to surprise us and remind us that spring is almost here. They flower early and can push their way up through the snow. They can be left in the same place for years and will naturalise and multiply rapidly. Each year the snowdrops return forming large, dense groups. Look great planted in an area of the lawn. And what about snowdrops in a pot or planter on the patio? Or cut some of the fresh white flowers for a vase in the living room. Everything is possible with these cute snowdrops!

Planting
As soon as possible after receiving the Galanthus woronowii bulbs they can be planted in the garden, a flower pot or in a planter. If not they must be kept in a frost-free area. Bulbs planted in a flower pot are not usually frost resistant. Plant the bulbs in a planting hole that is three times as deep as the height of the bulbs. A bulb of 2 cm should be planted in a 6 cm deep hole. The planting distance is about 2-5 cm. Loosen the soil well and plant the bulbs with the point facing upwards. Refill the planting hole and avoid walking over the soil. Plant the snowdrops one by one with a small trowel. For larger groups make a wider hole and plant more bulbs in it. The snowdrops grow best in humus-rich, well-drained soil in full sun or a partially shaded area of the garden.
Galanthus woronowii in the garden
The cute white flowers of the snowdrops will look striking especially when planted in large groups and the more you plant the more impact the flowers will have. Plant in groups of at least 15 bulbs, or divide 25 to 50 or even more, evenly in a flower border. Snowdrops can also be grown in a flower pot or patio planter. Make sure you use fresh potting soil and put a layer of gravel or hydrograins at the bottom of the pot. These dainty flowers can also be grown in the lawn or under bushes.
Care
Just plant the bulbs and enjoy the beautiful results year after year. Once planted the bulbs can be left undisturbed in subsequent years. They will produce more flowers each year, creating a glorious natural feature in the garden. After flowering, leave the foliage to die down naturally and cut back when it has turned yellow. If the snowdrops have been grown in the lawn you can only mow in the spring after the leaves have turned yellow. The following spring you will be delighted to see more and more flowers appear. To protect the bulbs grown in a pot against frost, place the pot in a frost-free area or cover it with bubble wrap. Water during dry periods.
Extra
Galanthus woronowii is a beautiful snowdrop with pure white flowers. This species is slightly different to the famous species Galanthus nivalis. The leaves of this snowdrop are quite wide, fresh-green and glossy, which is why this species is also known as the glossy snowdrop. The small bulbs of this early spring flowerer, multiply rapidly forming large drifts. Cut a small bunch for the living room and they will look so fresh!
