Care
What do I need?
Water the Opuntia moderately. The plant can withstand drought quite well. Allow the root ball to dry out between waterings. In winter, watering once will do. Put the Pilocereus in a bright spot in your home. It loves direct sunlight.

Extra
Prickly Pear is a very sturdy cactus from South America. Opuntia can even be grown outdoors in sheltered spots. You've probably seen these striking cacti when on holiday around the Mediterranean. This cactus can handle a few degrees of frost, but the ground should definitely be almost if not completely dry. Prickly Pear makes a great container plant! The fig cactus or sometimes known as the prickly pear is also very special as a cultivar! The plant forms flat discs which develop flowers along the edges, followed by fruit. The fruit vaguely resembles figs/pears and is definitely edible. Be careful when watering and potting up. Opuntia spines are easily caught on your skin and can be pretty troublesome to remove.
