Unique atmosphere
An atmospheric shrub? The Ninebark 'Little Angel' (Physocarpus Opulifolius) gives the garden a unique atmosphere with its beautiful, warm-red leaves. In summer, bunches of bell-shaped, white flowers appear. A beautiful contrast with the red leaves! The flowers bloom in the summer. The plant is a perennial. Next year you can enjoy the colourful ninebark again!
Prune away the branches at the base in spring, if necessary. Position the plant in a place with plenty of sunlight. Always keep the soil slightly moist. The ninebark prefers well-drained soil.

Planting
Make sure the root ball is well drenched prior to planting your Physocarpus opulifolius - steep in a bucket of lukewarm water first. It will thrive in a fertile soil preferably where the soil remains moist and is not too chalky. Improve poor soil with some fertiliser and garden compost. Stand the bush in a partly shady or sunny spot. Prepare a wide hole and loosen the soil with a fork. Stand your nine bark at the correct height in the hole - the top of the root ball should be just slightly below ground level. Refill the hole, press firmly down and water immediately.
Care
Physocarpus opulifolius is a sturdy ornamental shrub requiring little or no maintenance. can be lightly pruned after flowering in May-June but will probably not be necessary as the shrub already has a beautiful shape. Therefore it is best to only prune if you wish to rejuvenate the plant. To do this remove some of the thicker stems this year, and again next. If not done too rigorously, the plant will have no problem. It looks great as a stand-alone shrub but also suits a garden border. Lovely to look at, wherever it is planted!
Extra
In autumn, lovely red berries are formed. It sheds its triple lobed leaves in the winter time but not before turning a lovely autumnal tint. This is a hardy plant that is attractive all year through.
