Planting
You will receive a propagator set, consisting of a tray with a transparent lid and, among other things, a layer of ready to grow compost in which the mushrooms will develop. Keep the little packet of 'casing soil' from this hobby set in a cool place until later. Place the lid on the tray and store it for about 4 days at 20-25˚ C.
After 4 days the compost will be covered in a white mould. Now pierce the packet of casing soil: prick 5 holes, top and bottom. Place the packet in a bucket with a pint of water for 30 minutes, then allow the soil to drain.
Now spread this damp casing soil over the layer of compost in your propagator. Store the propagator at 20-25˚ C for 5-8 days with the lid on.

Care
The mushroom spawn will grow up through the compost in the next 5-8 days. Carefully make a hole in the casing soil to check if you can already see white threads. Are there white threads over the whole surface? Then you can continue propagating in a cooler position.
Place your propagator draught free at about 15-18˚ C. Use a water spray on the casing soil every day, do not allow the soil to dry out. However, it is also not good for the mushrooms' development if the soil is too damp. After about 5 days you will see the first white buds appear (don't touch!). Picking mushrooms The mushrooms will now grow pretty fast and after about a week you can start harvesting them. A medium sized mushroom is about 4-5 cm in diameter. Twist the mushroom right out of the soil carefully by the stem. If you leave a piece of the stem, remove it entirely. Harvest all the mushrooms over a period of five days.
You can use them directly in the kitchen or save them for a few days in the refrigerator. Try to keep the casing soil as intact as possible. This will enable you to grow more mushrooms in the same propagator. Start anew by spraying the casing soil with about a pint of water. After 3-5 days the first buds will appear again.
After 3-5 days the first buds appear again. In total, you can harvest 3-5 times a kit.

Extra
Mushrooms grow from a thread like network called the mycelium. The propagator we deliver is already filled with compost containing the mycelium. With sufficient moisture and warmth, the mushrooms grow from this network of threads.
Home grown mushrooms are extra tasty. Use them in soups and sauces. Fried mushrooms are a delicacy!
It's a lot of fun and educational too, to follow the growing process with your (grand) children.
