Colour contrast
A heath pearlwort, but slightly different. Not an even green carpet, but green and black leaves. That's the Sagina subulata 'Family Black'. The low-growing plant gives the garden a woodland feel. The winter-hardy plant retains its colour all year round. You can plant the Sagina all year round, provided temperatures have not dipped below freezing.
Pruning is not necessary. However, remove grass and weeds from between the plant. Plant heath pearlwort in a place with plenty of sunlight. Always keep the soil slightly moist.
