Cover your onion sets with about 3 cm of soil, press lightly down and sprinkle with water. Extra rows at 30 cm apart.

Care
Requires NO extra fertiliser to improve quality at all. Do water extra during dry periods and keep the bed weed-free - your onion plants will then thrive.
Harvesting
Harvest from July to October.
Onions can be harvested from summer onwards. Dig them up one for one, using a small gardening trowel - loosen the soil around the base of the leaves and pull up. They will then need drying - just lie them in the sun (off the ground somewhere sheltered) until the leaves have turned yellow and dry. They can then be stored long term. Do harvest all before the autumn rains.

Extra
Onions have been grown for at least 3,000 years! Spreading from Central Asia (Iran and Afghanistan) to China, then about 2,000 years ago via India, Egypt and Greece to Italy and further! Nowadays they are used over the whole world as flavour enhancer in all sorts of dishes.
