The aquatic plant, reedmace, is best used in a pond basket. Line the basket with a piece of jute and fill the pond with special pond medium. Plant the lesser reedmace in the basket and fill with soil. Cover everything with the remaining jute and sprinkle with a layer of gravel. Place the basket about 40 cm deep in the pond. If your pond is too deep, you could stand the basket on a pile of bricks. This plant can also thrive out of the water, in marshy soil. Full sun or part shade.
Combining reedmace with other aquatics
Reedmace is an elegant narrow-leafed aquatic that will give your pond a very natural look. It combines perfectly with the flowering rush (Butomus Umbellatus) and yellow iris (Pseudacorus) along the edge of a natural pond. These riparian plants will definitely attract all sorts of wildlife.
Care
Reedmace (typha angustifolia) is an easily grown pond plant that requires minimal maintenance. Cut off its dead leaves in autumn and remove them from the pond. If the rhizome grows too large, you should take this dwarf reedmace out of the pond in May, divide the clump into smaller pieces and plant only one or two of the best bits back in the pond.

The variety of reedmace's flowers are great for drying and are therefore very popular for dried flower arrangements. The flower heads are more ball shaped than the sigars of larger varieties. Its long, narrow leaves resemble reeds, only shorter.
