Sleeping flowers
Cheerful colours in the flower garden. The Californian poppy (Eschscholzia californica) has bright yellow, orange and white flowers, that have a lovely satiny sheen. Once the sun goes down, it goes to 'sleep'. Plant the flower seeds outdoors in late March to late May by scattering them broadly or planting them in rows. The flowers bloom from June to September. They grow to about 40 cm tall.
Space the California poppy seeds 10 cm apart. Space the rows at a distance of 30 cm. Plant at a depth of 0.5 to 1 cm. The Eschscholzia blooms best in full sun. After sowing, water the seeds adequately. The flower seeds come in a bag containing approximately 1 gram. This is enough to sow 7 square metres.
