Planting
Plant Brunnera macrophylla in the garden or in a pot after receiving it. Prepare a sufficiently large planting hole and loosen the soil thoroughly. Improve poor garden soil by mixing in compost and granulated cow manure. Place the root ball of the Siberian bugloss at the correct depth in the planting hole. The top of the root ball should be just below ground level. Fill the planting hole with soil, press down firmly and water immediately after planting. You can also put Brunnera macrophylla in large pots. Siberian bugloss plants grow well in fertile, reasonably moist soil in a spot in partial shade or shade.
Siberian bugloss in the garden
Brunnera macrophylla plants are strong perennials that can grow in the same spot for years. Siberian bugloss is one of the most popular foliage plants. Even in shade this perennial grows excellently well. You can plant Siberian bugloss as a solitary plant between lower plants. The leaves will combine beautifully with, for instance, spotted deadnettle (Lamium maculatum 'Beacon Silver') and lilyturf (Liriope muscari 'Moneymaker'). Or combine the spotted leaves of Siberian bugloss with other shade loving plants, such as Astilbe, granny's bonnet, large-leaf hostas and Japanese anemones.
Care
Brunnera macrophylla is an easy plant requiring little care. Make sure the soil around the roots does not dry out. Soil that is too dry is not well tolerated. It is however an excellent perennial that is winter-hardy and stays green for part of the winter season. In spring, remove the faded leaves and you will very soon see new foliage. Siberian bugloss flowers in spring.
Ground cover
In a shaded garden, Brunnera macrophylla will be an excellent ground cover and spreads naturally under trees and bushes without becoming invasive. .
Extra
The Siberian bugloss is particularly known as a foliage plant, as it remains green virtually throughout the year. However, the inflorescence is also very beautiful. The small forget-me-not like flowers also have a lot of charm, located on stems that only just protrude from the foliage.
