Planting
Scabiosa japonica will thrive in any normal garden soil in full sun. Dig a wide hole and fork the soil well loose. Plant your double flowered Scabiosa at the correct depth - the top of the root ball should be just below soil level. Fill up with more soil and press it well into the soil. Water immediately after planting. The soil should be free draining, especially in the winter.
Potted Scabios japonica
Due to the large flowers and rather short flower stems, this double-flowered Scabious makes an excellent pot plant. The striking pink hue combines wonderfully with the fresh white lily 'Reinesse'.
Care
Scabiosa japonica is easily grown and requires very little maintenance. Just ensure that the plant does not dry out. Snip off overblown flower stems entirely to encourage reflowering and it will flower all summer long. If you want it to flower even more abundantly, we advise feeding it fortnightly with liquid plant food for flowering plants.
In winter, the stems will naturally die back above ground. It is advisable to cover the plants during winter with a layer of fallen leaves. In early spring remove all dead foliage and apply a fertiliser. You will soon see the arrival of some new shoots appearing.

Scabious 'Pink Diamonds' is a dwarf plant and originally comes from Japan. Its flowers are bright pink whorls of petals. They are like the facets of a beautifully cut diamond. The flowers also remind some people of an old pincushion. Thus, Scabious 'Pink Diamonds' are also called a 'pincushion flower' another known name is 'Dove Herb'. Its flowers attracts butterflies and bees.
