Planting
We recommend planting Erica x darleyensis as soon as possible after delivery, in a plant pot. Choose a pot with holes in the base to provide adequate drainage. Cover the bottom of the pot with potsherds or a layer of hydro granules. Put fresh potting compost in the plant pot and mix with some garden peat. Place the root ball of the heather at the right depth. Fill with compost and press firmly. Water generously immediately after planting and put the plant pot in a spot in full sun or partial shade. Darley dale heather planting combinations Erica x darleyensis is an exuberant winter flowerer that brings a lot of colour to your patio. Put the plants close to each other in a patio container, you can then enjoy the small white and pink flowers for months. The Darley Dale heather can be combined well with Eastern teaberry (Gaultheria) and Leucothoe ‘Scarletta’. Because of the compact growth and the small wintergreen leaves, Erica x darleyensis is also an excellent ground cover plant.
Care
Water your Darley dale heather regularly, so that the root ball does not dry out. For an extra rich flowering we recommend adding plant food to the irrigation water on a regular basis during the flowering period. After flowering prune the dead flowers to encourage a bushy shape.
Extra
Erica x darleyensis flowers at the end of the winter until early springtime and is popular with bees and bumblebees. This compact small heather shrub keeps its leaves throughout the year. Erica x darleyensis is winter hardy and can grow in a pot as well as in the garden. They like soil that is slightly acidic. The bushes we provide are in pink and white. Also known as winter heath or heather.
