16x Tulip Tulipa - Mix 'The Red Box' red

Allium
Stunning purple alliums!
All shades of red for a sparkling garden! The tulip mix 'Red Box' (Tulipa) is the collection many have longed for. The mix contains the Tulipa Van Eijk, Tulipa Salmon Van Eijk, Tulipa Mystic Van Eijk and the Tulipa Orange Van Eijk. Every one of these beautiful tulip varieties has its own unique characteristics. Plant this mix in the autumn between September and December. The flowers bloom from March to April.
Protect the potted flower bulbs in winter by covering the soil with a layer of autumn leaves. In the event of severe frost, temporarily place the pot in a shed or protect it with bubble wrap. When planting in the open ground, maintain a planting distance of three times the width of the flower bulb. Plant the bulb the depth of three times the bulb's height. When planted in a pot, the flower bulbs can be somewhat closer together. Put the flower bulbs in the sun or partial shade. The flower bulbs grow beautifully without needing extra water.
A real asset for the garden!

How we measure

We measure the diameter of the bulb. A bigger bulb contains more food for longer flowering and a stronger plant.

  • Fresh potting soil and hydro grains (for pots or planters)

How do I plant the Allium?
It’s best to plant the Allium as soon as possible after receipt. Plant it directly into the ground, in a flower pot or in a spacious planter. The Allium grows best in loose, well-drained soil. A sheltered spot in the sun, semi-shade or in the shadow will do just fine.
The Allium should be planted at a depth of 3 times the height of the bulb. For instance, if the flower bulb is 5 cm high it should be planted at a depth of 15 cm. The distance between small bulbs is 5 - 8 cm and 10 - 15 cm between larger ones.

Planting can be done in spring as well as in autumn. Use a small spade or a special bulb planter for planting. Plant the bulb with the tip up and the roots down.

Planting the Allium in the garden
Find a suitable place in the border or create a flowerbed. Loosen the soil well and divide the flower bulbs across the surface. That can be done in groups of 6 or spread out evenly. Plant the Allium as indicated above, water immediately, and don't walk on the freshly planted area.

How do I plant the Allium in a pot or planter?
Put a layer of hydro grains on the bottom of a decorative pot. Place the flower bulb in the potting soil at the right depth. Water immediately after planting. It's best to put the pot inside in winter, as a tulip in a pot doesn't cope well with frost.

What do I need?

  • Watering can

How do I care for the Allium?
The Allium doesn't require a lot of care. Water well during dry spells. Make sure the soil doesn't become too moist. Remove dead flower stems so all the energy goes to the bulb. Clip off the Allium's leaves once they turn yellow. Cover the soil with a layer of leaves during frost.
