The unusual alliums!

Let yourself be surprised by the lovely allium (Allium Sphaerocephalon)! With its many small flowers in a spherical form, it's a magic wand enchanting the garden. They have a playful appearance with their flexible stems. Plant the allium in the autumn. The allium will flower in the spring.
Alliums grow best in a dry and sunny place, especially if the soil drains well. Alliums even hold their own among perennials and shrubs. We don't have to water, because the allium is drought resistant. A beautiful sight and a real magnet for butterflies and bees!

How do I plant the Allium?
It’s best to plant the Allium as soon as possible after receipt. Plant it directly into the ground, in a flower pot or in a spacious planter. The Allium grows best in loose, well-drained soil. A sheltered spot in the sun, semi-shade or in the shadow will do just fine.
The Allium should be planted at a depth of 3 times the height of the bulb. For instance, if the flower bulb is 5 cm high it should be planted at a depth of 15 cm. The distance between small bulbs is 5 - 8 cm and 10 - 15 cm between larger ones.

Planting can be done in spring as well as in autumn. Use a small spade or a special bulb planter for planting. Plant the bulb with the tip up and the roots down.

Planting the Allium in the garden
Find a suitable place in the border or create a flowerbed. Loosen the soil well and divide the flower bulbs across the surface. That can be done in groups of 6 or spread out evenly. Plant the Allium as indicated above, water immediately, and don't walk on the freshly planted area.

How do I plant the Allium in a pot or planter?
Put a layer of hydro grains on the bottom of a decorative pot. Place the flower bulb in the potting soil at the right depth. Water immediately after planting. It's best to put the pot inside in winter, as a tulip in a pot doesn't cope well with frost.

What do I need?
  • Watering can

How do I care for the Allium?
The Allium doesn't require a lot of care. Water well during dry spells. Make sure the soil doesn't become too moist. Remove dead flower stems so all the energy goes to the bulb. Clip off the Allium's leaves once they turn yellow. Cover the soil with a layer of leaves during frost.
