Campsis x tagliabuana 'Fire Trumpet'
Small and compact bloomer
It's like being on holiday in our own garden. That's what we do with the trumpet flower 'Fire Trumpet' (Campsis x tagliabuana). Large, red exotic flowers. It makes us smile! The profusely blooming trumpet flower can also be planted in an attractive flowerpot. For butterflies and bees on our patio. The flowers bloom in the summer.
Pruning is not necessary, unless the plant becomes too large. The plant needs support from a rack or fence to grow. Put the perennial plant somewhere in the sun. The trumpet flower grows well in any well-drained soil. Give it extra water during dry periods.

Prior to planting your 'Madame Galen' soak the roots in a bucket full of lukewarm water overnight. Prepare a large hole and loosen the soil. Plant the root ball of tagliabuana Campsis 'Madame Galen' at the appropriate depth in the hole. The top of the root ball should be just slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil, press firmly and water immediately after planting. The trumpet flower grows well in fertile soil. Poor soil can be improved with mixing in some nutritious compost. Give this vine a warm, sheltered spot in full sun.

Orange flowering 'Madame Galen' is a stunning climber

The Trumpet Creeper 'Madame Galen' is an exceptionall beautiful climber. Its stems and trumpet-shaped flowers can creep along walls or a pergola from June-August. The stems produce plenty of self-cling aerial roots to attach themselves while climbing. However, we still recommend helping the Trumpet Creeper to climb by tethering the branches along the wall or a pergola. The best place is a wall, fence or pergola that is south facing. Due to its strong growth, this plant is best used as a specimen plant.

The Trumpet Creeper 'Madame Galen' needs sufficient moisture in order to develop properly, therefore you need to increase watering during dry periods. Protect the base of the trumpet flower against severe frost with a layer of fallen leaves or straw. Even though some of its branches die off, it will always continue growing from its roots. In early spring add a garden mulch layer of compost and manure granules. 'Madam Galen' can become a little invasive and can be pruned back quite hard between late March and early April. You will see a lot of new growth in summer.

This exotic, rich-flowering climber with large red-orange flowers will 'steal the show' by late summer. The stems cling using their aerial roots. When grown in a sunny area, the Trumpet Creeper can climb to over 5 metres high and will quite rapidly cover a wall. The foliage is composed of small leaves (leafets) that can reach up to 45 cm long. It is particularly decorative!
