Planting
You can plant the tiger flower bulbs in the ground, in a flower pot or patio container. Beware of night frosts. When planting the bulbs, make sure that the depth of the hole is twice as deep as the height of the bulb. A 5 cm bulb should therefore be planted in a 10 cm hole. Space the bulbs approximately 10 cm apart with the points facing upwards. Loosen the soil well and mix some fresh potting compost and sharp sand through it. Fill the hole with soil. You can plant the bulbs of the tiger flower using a trowel or a special bulb planter. They can be planted individually or in small groups. The tiger flower grows best in loose, well drained soil in a spot in full sun.
Care
Water the Tiger Flowers regularly to prevent the soil around the roots from drying out. Waterlogged soil is not appreciated. To prolong the flowering period, regularly remove the faded flowers. For an extra rich flowering, it is recommended to add plant food when watering, regularly during the summer.
The Tiger Flower must be protected throughout the winter
The bulbs of the tiger flower are not frost hardy. You can protect them during the winter with a layer of fallen leaves or pine branches, or you can lift them and store in a frost-free area. Cut of all stems 15 cm above the bulb. Shake the soil from the bulbs and place them in a box of sharp sand. Store the tiger flower in a frost-free area. Attach a label with the name 'Tiger Flower' to remind yourself for the following year. The following spring they can be planted and they will reward you again with their beautiful flowers.
