Hiding and nesting
Every garden needs a nesting box. This basic nesting box, made from the purest materials, provides a fine place to build a nest for sparrows and helps keep bird populations where they belong or encourage them to return to an area. Hanging a nesting box for sparrows used to be unheard of. There used to be so many of them and they always found a place to stay. However, sparrow populations have drastically declined in recent years and modern home construction makes it difficult for them to find suitable nesting places.
This block of flats for sparrows provides them with three homes, where they will enjoy close proximity to their neighbours. This customised nesting box, with galvanised roof, gives a whole host of birds a place to nest: the tree sparrow, house sparrow, the great tit, and the blue tit, just to name a few. In the winter, the nesting box often proves to be an excellent hideaway for birds looking to escape bad weather. The box should be hung in a quiet, somewhat protected location, so not in direct sun or in the direction of rain, with a clear flying route for the bird. The autumn is the best time to clean the nesting box.
