Pink in autumn

An eye-catcher in the autumn. The evergreen marsh gladiolus 'Mrs Hegarty' (Schizostylis coccinea) blooms then with stunning pink flowers. Full, pink flowers emerge between the sword-shaped leaves. For a vibrant colour in our pond. The aquatic plant is a waterside and marsh plant. We can plant the plant along the edge (bank) of our pond. Or we can plant the gladiolus up to 40 cm deep in the pond. Plant the marsh gladiolus in the spring. The flowers bloom in the autumn.
We prune the plant slightly to shape it with a pruning shear. We remove old leaves and dirt. To encourage good growth, we add minerals to the pond water and ensure that the water's hardness level (pH value and calcium to magnesium ratio) is maintained. Put the plant in full sun or partial shade.

Planting
Scarlet River Lily is a unique plant that grows best when planted in moist soil; for example, along the edge of a pond. Prepare your garden soil by mixing in some compost and garden manure and plant the root balls at the appropriate depth in the hole. The top of the root balls should be just slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil and press firmly. Give them plenty of water immediately after planting. They thrive best in a spot in complete sunshine. Crimson Flag makes an excellent combination plant The stunning red flowers of Schizostylis coccinea ‘Major’ are beautiful along the edge of a pond. Their narrow leaves are very decorative. This plant particularly looks gorgeous when planted in large groups. The red flowers work well together with Hostas and the Sea Knotgrass planted in moist soil. If you don't have a pond, you can also plant the lily in a flower pot with moist soil, but don't let the soil dry out.
Care
This marsh plant is an easy grower and will grow into a large clump. After several years, if the clump becomes too large, you can divide it into smaller pieces and replant. Schiaostylis coccinea 'Major' is slightly sensitive to frost. During severe frost, protect them with a layer of fallen leaves or straw.
Extra
The marsh gladiolus originates from South Africa and is also known as the Kaffir lily. It is an evergreen plant that slightly resembles the familiar gladiolus.
Schizostylis coccinea according to the latest findings has been renamed to Hesperantha coccinea and is a member of the iris family (Iridaceae).
