Magnolia brooklynensis 'Yellow Bird'
Yellow flowers
The unique yellow flowers of this magnolia let the garden shine! The Japanese meadowsweet 'Goldflame' (Spiraea Japonica) has purple-pink flowers. You can plant the shrub all year round, provided temperatures have not dipped below freezing. The flowers bloom in the spring. It sometimes blooms in summer as well.
The magnolia does not require pruning. Position the plant in a place with plenty of sunlight. Water immediately after planting. Give them extra water during dry periods.
If you buy deciduous shrubs in autumn they might not be looking quite as beautiful as usual. The big benefit of planting shrubs in autumn is that by spring they will be well rooted in the garden and ready to burst into growth.
