The common privet
The 'common’ privet. That’s another name for the ‘Liga’ privet (Ligustrum vulgare). The ‘Liga’ in a nursery pot is very strong! The hedge stays a beautiful green in the winter and the branches don’t freeze. In the springtime, the ‘Liga’ produces white flowers. These later change into black berries. The berries are poisonous to humans, but birds love to eat them. The hedge will flourish in all types of soil and is easy to prune. For a beautiful, closed hedge, we recommend using five bushes per metre. The hedge should be pruned twice per year. Once in the spring and once in the autumn. For the best results, give the hedge ‘beech and hedge’ food. The hedge will grow in any moist, well-drained soil. Make sure that the ground stays moist during the initial period after planting. It's best to give them extra water during dry periods. And they need sufficient light in order to grow well. The hedge grows best in full or half sun.
