Tiny leaves

You almost can't see them! The leaves of the Japanese pagoda tree 'Little Leaf' (Sophora prostrata) are so tiny they can't be seen from a distance. Fortunately, you can admire them all over the wild branches. They go every which-way. Small leaves grown on all the branches like a decorative mist. In the summer, yellow flowers bloom on the bush. The Japanese pagoda tree is well-suited to a pot on the patio or balcony! The plant is moderately winter-hardy. Take it out of the ground or put the plant indoors when there is a hard frost.
Prune overgrown branches. Plant the Japanese pagoda tree in a place with plenty of sunlight. Always keep the soil slightly moist. Water it more during dry periods.

Planting
Sophora prostrata is such a versatile plant. Makes a great house plant but also a terrific plant on the patio or decking. The Sophora prostrata prefers a light spot, but can also cope in darker places. It will thrive in a sunny spot on the patio or decking, but if it has to go in a shady spot, that won’t be a problem. Another quality is its natural resistance to wind. Do ensure that in winter wherever you stand it, the roots of the Sophora prostrata do not stand in water, especially when potted – always select pots with holes for good drainage.
Care
The Sophora prostrata is a very undemanding shrub. Indoors, water weekly or at least keep the potting compost moist. Do not allow the plant to stand in any excess water at the bottom of the pot as this will just drown it. If the plant is growing outdoors, just water enough so that the compost doesn’t dry out. This bush should really not stand in water. This shrub can be kept slightly drier over the winter. As it is a slow growing plant, it shouldn’t really be necessary to prune it. From time to time, do feel free to cut back any long shoots to keep its shape and obtain thicker foliage. Sophora prostrata in the winter The Sophora prostrata is used to hard coastal winds and is fairly hardy – will easily manage -5° C. The Sophora prostrata will however prefer to hibernate in a cool place over the winter and the perfect temperature would be between 5° C-10° C, but a warmer place up to 15° C will not cause a problem.
If your Sophora prostrata is on the patio or decking, you must give it some protection from the first frost or bring it indoors. If your Sophora prostrata is kept in a cool spot for the winter, you may see small yellow flowers appear in summer.
Extra
This shrub is very original with its branches tangled and zigzag growth, the branches grow to the centre.
Sophora prostrata belongs to the butterfly family Fabaceae or Leguminosae (Fabaceae or Leguminosae).
