How to Sow
Sowing period under glass: February - March, open ground: April to late June.
Sowing is possible in 2 ways:
Plant the richly blooming Digitalis purpurea 'Dalmatian' F1 in their final destination from April/May. Foxgloves do really great in borders or flowerbeds. Make a plant hole and improve poor garden soil with compost or fresh potting compost.
Place plants in borders and flowerbeds approximately 30 cm apart. Add more soi, press down firml and water immediately after planting.
The seed will germinate in 14-21 days.
Sowing is possible in 2 ways:
- Sowing from February is easiest in a small greenhouse on the window-sill, or in a cold greenhouse. An ideal temperature would be 18–22°C. Fill pots with sowing compost and place one seed on the soil of each pot and press down gently. Digitalis purpurea is a light germinator, so the seed should not be covered. Water them carefully and the warmth will do the rest. Plant foxglove outdoors as of May. You can inhibit growth by moving them to a cooler but light location.
- Sowing in open ground, preferably in full sunlight, is possible from late April to the end of June. Loosen the earth to a depth of at least 30 cm. Make a straight groove of approx. 1 cm deep. Place a label at the start of the groove. Mix the seed with dry sharp sand and apply the seed by letting it drop between thumb and index finger above the groove. Sow as thinly as possible. Digitalis purpurea is a light germinator, the seed should therefore not be covered. Sow several rows 20 cm apart.

Care
Water regularly, keep the plot free from weeds by removing them as soon as they appear. As a result, the foxgloves will continue to grow well. The foxglove is undemanding and will also do well in poor soil. The plant may bloom from June.
Harvesting
The beautiful flowers with their long stems can easily be picked using scissors or a knife. You can also use your thumb and index finger.
Extra
Foxglove (Digitalis purpurea 'Dalmatian' F1) is a biennial plant. This special type can flower in the first year if it is sown early enough but in principle the first year it often only forms a rosette of leaves, so it is able to bloom in the second year. Foxgloves reaches 40 to 50 cm high. This plant originates from Europe.
The foxglove is self-seeding, so you will have plants for the next year as well. If you do not want it to spread, you should remove the faded flowers immediately after flowering.
The plants are winter-hardy.
