Planting
Meadow Rue thrives in shade or part shade in loose, humus-rich soil.
Plant Thalictrum delavayi var. delavayi (Meadow Rue) in the ground immediately upon receipt. Make a large hole in good, loose soil. Condition poor garden soil by mixing in some compost. Plant the root ball at the correct depth - the top of the root ball should be just slightly below ground level. Fill the hole and heel well in. Water immediately after planting. Meadow Rue (Thalictrum delavayi var. delavayi) combines well with other plants Meadow Rue makes the perfect border plant as it really stands out. It can even be planted quite near the front despite its height, thanks to its wide open stems. Plant Thalictrum delavayi var. delavayi with Delphinium or Phlox Paniculata. It is also very successful as a solitary plant between the lower growing plants such as Stachys (Stachys Officinalis 'Rosea') and the Masterwort.

Care
Thalictrum delavayi var. delavayi (Meadow Rue) is an ideal plant as it can remain in the same place for many years. Be sure to prevent the soil around its roots from drying out. Cut off faded flower stems to encourage reflowering.
In winter, the stems above the ground will die back. Cover the plants with a layer of leaf litter in the winter. Mulch with compost in early spring. Cut back all old leaf and new shoots will soon appear.

Extra
Meadow Rue (Thalictrum delavayi var. delavayi) is one of the most beautiful and graceful varieties of Meadow Rue. The great abundance of small lilac coloured flowers sit in loose branched panicles. Each lovely flower displays a tuft of striking yellow stamens and, together with the thick purple tinted stems and the fine, bluish-green foliage make this a classic border plant!
Thalictrum is classified as one of the Ranunculaceae.
