Planting
What do I need?
  • A trowel
  • Garden peat and compost
  • Water

Water first
Place the fringe flower in a bucket of lukewarm water first.

In a pot
Add garden peat and compost to a large pot and then plant the fringe flower. Place the tree at the proper height, so that the top of the root ball is just below ground level. Fill the hole up with potting soil and press firmly. Give the fringe flower water right away.

In the garden
Plant the fringe flower in the sun or in half shade, but only in soil that drains well. The soil needs to be nutrient-rich, but it is all right if it is a bit dry. Create a spacious hole for planting and till the soil well. Add garden peat and compost to the hole and then plant the fringe flower. Place the tree at the proper height, so that the top of the root ball is just below ground level. Fill the hole up with potting soil and press firmly. Give the fringe flower water right away.
Care
What do I need?
  • Pruning shears
  • Plant food

Maintenance
Regularly water the fringe flower, and when it is blooming, give it some plant food - it really makes a difference. These plants do well in cold weather, but if you have planted it in a pot, it is a good idea to move it somewhere that doesn’t freeze when the temperature drops significantly.

Pruning
You do not need to prune a fringe flower, but you can if you like. Cut away branches that are too long after they have bloomed. This allows you to keep the shrub neat and sleek.
Extra
The original Chinese fringe bush grows on mountain slopes in China. This early flowering bush Loropetalum chinense is ideal for brightening up the spring garden. Its unique bright pink flowers stand out beautifully against the dark leaves. The blooms continue well into the summer, giving off light floral scents. Even after flowering, this large shrub's dark leaves remain gorgeous throughout the whole year.
