Cape pond weed (Aponogeton distachyos) is best planted in a pond basket. Line the basket with sacking and use special pond medium to fill it. Plant your Cape pond weed in the basket and fill up with more medium. Flip the remaining edges of the sacking around the plant and then add a layer of grit or pebbles. Plant the basket at around 20-60 cm deep into the pond. Cape pond weed (Aponogeton distachyos) grows well in deep water. Place in full sun. The best planting time is May-June.
Care
Cape pond weed (Aponogeton distachyos) is an undemanding, sturdy aquatic. In autumn snip off all dead foliage and remove it from the pond. If the rhizome outgrows its spot, just lift the Cape pond weed (Aponogeton distachyos) out of your pond in May and divide it into smaller pieces. Plant a couple of the best pieces back in your pond.

Aponogeton distachyos (Cape pond weed) flowers are a lovely pure white and smell just delightful. This is a pretty abundant flowering plant too and will produce new flowers from March into October! Can take up quite a big space after a while. The leaves are oval and float on the surface, just like water lilies.
