Planting
Soak the root ball of the Spherical Box Figure in a bucket of water for one hour. Prepare a large hole in good nutritious soil. Plant the root ball at the appropriate depth in the hole. The top of the root ball should be just slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil and press firmly with your foot. Immediately water the newly planted area. The buxus grows well in normal garden soil, in both complete sunshine or shade.
Spherical Box Figure grows well in a pot
Spherical Box Figure looks great in a pot. A terracotta flower pot makes an excellent choice. The pot should have holes in the base to provide adequate drainage. Leave enough space at the top of the pot for watering. A clipped Spherical Box Figure makes a striking effect in the garden border.
Care
Spherical Box Figure is an easy-to-grow, evergreen and hardy shrub that requires minimal maintenance. Provide adequate water during dry periods as this shrub has a low tolerance for very dry soil. This is especially true when this tree is grown in a flower pot. You can leave the pot outside during the winter, preferably in a sheltered area. To protect the root ball, it can be placed in a stone flower pot lined with bubble wrap. Are the edges of the leaves yellow? If so, then the tree is either too dry or is not being given enough feed.
Spherical Box Figure can be pruned
In May and June, the Spherical Box Figure can be pruned into shape. This is easy with a small pair of sharp pruning shears or a hedge trimmer. It is advisable to prune during cool weather and not when the sun is fully out as this could cause the leaves to burn. Prune your Box again in September. To keep your Spherical Box with a groomed shape you can prune it up to 4 times in a year. Strong pruning is tolerated fairly well by this shrub. In its early years, fertilize after pruning. Fertilizer is absorbed by the plant through the leaves as well as the roots.
Extra
This shrub can be found in almost any traditional garden. In both summer and winter, this shrub boasts a stylish structure in the garden. The Spherical Box Figure is truly enchanting in the winter showered with a layer of snow or frost!
