Planting
Prior to planting, make sure the roots of the Fargesia are moistened well by soaking them in a bucket of lukewarm water. Dig a sufficiently large plant hole and thoroughly loosen the soil. Place the root system of Fargesia at the correct height in the plant hole. The top of the root system should be just below ground level. Fill the plant hole with soil and press down firmly and water generously. Fargesia will grow in any spot in the garden, in normal, moderately moist garden soil.
Bamboo in the garden
Fargesia is a beautiful wintergreen solitary plant for your garden. You can also prune away the lower leaves. In this way, the twigs will remain visible, and you will be able to look through the twigs. Fargesia is also suitable as a high, separate hedge. Cut the hedge to the required shape early in summer. Stems that protrude too much can be removed regularly. The Japanese bamboo Fargesia will quickly form a curtain of greenery that will give you privacy!
Care
Fargesia is a vigorous bamboo that hardly requires any care. Water regularly during the first few months after planting and during very dry periods. Bamboo does not tolerate very dry soil in summer or too wet in winter.
After August discontinue using any fertiliser to allow the bamboo stems to be properly hardened as they enter winter. Pruning Fargesia Only start pruning once a height of 2 metres has been reached. After a few years, it is possible that there are a few dead stems in the centre. Prune these away, making room for new stems. Stems that are pruned above ground will no longer grow. Limit pruning work to the removal of dead wood.

Extra
Fargesia is a beautiful tall bamboo variety with sturdy, fresh green stems and small elongated foliage. Fargesia will grow approx. 2 metres high in 5 years. This great bamboo loves space. In nutritious soil the stems can reach over 2.5 metres tall. This powerful and fast growing bamboo creates large pollen, but hardly produces suckers.
