Planting
When you receive your Gaillardia you can plant them in the garden. Before planting prepare the planting hole and loosen the soil. Improve heavy garden soil by mixing in some sharp sand before planting the blanket flower with the top of the root ball just slightly below the surface of the soil. Then fill the hole with soil, press down firmly and water thoroughly. This plant grows well and flourishes in a sunny place in loose well-drained soil. The Blanket Flower is great for the border The large, double flowers of the cockade flower do have a daisy-like look about them. These colourful flowers come in the vibrant colours, yellow, orange and red that will definitely stand out in the border. Combine them in beds and borders with torch lily (Kniphofia) and the inca Lily (Alstroemeria).

Care
The Gaillarde prefers well-drained, fairly dry soil. It is not tolerant to wet soil especially in winter, on the other hand do not let the soil around the roots dry out. During flowering, regularly add fertiliser when watering. Cut the stems of faded flowers to stimulate and extend the flowering period. Also cut lots of flowers for a vase as this promotes the growth of the plant. The flowers will bloom through the whole summer. Blanket Flower needs to be trimmed Cut all the flower stems and a large part of its leaves in early September. The roots can then produce new, strong leaves for the arrival of winter. Cover the plant with a layer of fallen leaves or conifer branches in the winter. Apply garden manure early in the spring.
Extra
The large flowers of the Blanket Flower are much sought after as a cut flower for a summer arrangement. The beautiful red and yellow daisy-like flowers last a long time in a vase. So do not miss out, plant plenty in your border. Pick the flowers preferably early in the morning. Remove the bottom leaves and place the stems directly into a vase full of lukewarm water with flower food.
