Lay the rhizome of Baby's Breath (Gypsophila paniculata) sideways in the hole approximately 7 cm deep. Refill the hole with soil and press firmly. Water immediately after planting. Gypsophila paniculata grows and thrives well in an area with complete sunshine in well-drained, lime rich soil.
Care
Baby's Breath is an easy-to-grow perennial that requires minimal maintenance. The soil is allowed to be on the dry side. Stem rot may be a problem in wet conditions with poor drainage. The stems above the ground will die back in the winter. Cover this plant in winter with a layer of fallen leaves. In spring cut all of its stems off and soon there will be some new shoots visible above the ground.
Extra
Baby's Breath blooms with thousands of flowers on highly branched stems. It has always been a popular flower for using in bouquets. These flowers last a long time in a vase. Pick the flowers preferably early in the morning. You only need a few stems. Remove its bottom leaves and put the stems directly into a vase full of lukewarm water with flower food. This species is also called Gypsophila and is part of the carnation family.
