Planting
Daylilies will thrive in the garden. Dig a wide hole and loosen the soil with a fork. Improve poor soil with the addition of some well-rotted manure. Plant your Hemerocallis at the correct depth - the top of the root system should come to just below soil level. Fill the hole with soil and press well in. Water your daylily immediately. Your daylily will thrive in full sun or part shade.
Potted daylily
Daylilies look lovely potted up too and will definitely grace any patio or decking you place them on. Do ensure good drainage and choose a pot with holes in the base, layered with potsherds or gravel before you add the potting compost. Water your daylily immediately after planting. You will see the pale green foliage appear in the spring and the whole plant will burst into flower in the summer. Combining daylilies with other plants Daylilies look lovely together with other nice flowers too. The hanging foliage makes it attractive as well. In the border, Hemerocallis looks good next to Alstroemeria (Lily of the Incas), phlox and delphinium (Larkspur). If the soil is moist enough, they also look lovely next to a hosta.

Care
The soil around Hemerocallis must not dry out. Daylilies will thrive in fairly moist soil, such as along the edge of the garden pond. Do not snip out overblown flower stems too soon, as there are usually new flower buds forming. The daylily is a very strong garden plant that can remain planted in the same spot for years to come. Give it a winter mulch of well-rotted manure around the base of the clump.
Extra
Hemerocallis flowers are not only beautiful to admire, but they are also edible! In Asian countries, the daylily flower buds are even considered a delicacy! The name daylily represents the fact that these lily-like flowers only open for one day. However, since there are many flower buds on its stems, the plant seems to be overflowing with flowers during the summer.
