Pure, winter-hardy geraniums. Fresh from the garden.

Looking for a pink magnet for bees and butterflies? Look no further: the geranium "Birch Double" is what you need. It is also known as the crane's-bill geranium. They bloom from the end of the spring until the end of summer. You will receive the geraniums as bare-root stock in sugar cane sacking. This is more environmentally friendly than plastic nursery pots. The roots are shipped fresh from the ground. They are already one year old. This gives them additional strength, enabling them to grow faster than they would in a nursery pot. Plants grown from bare-root stock also adapt to their new environment more easily. They flower better and they are more economical. Bare-root stock plants grow when it becomes warmer. They are winter-hardy perennials. They can be planted at any time, provided that the ground is not frozen. The crane's-bill geranium begins blooming in the middle of summer. These winter-hardy geraniums do best in full or half sun. They can also be planted around the garden or in flower pots on a patio, roof terrace or balcony. Keep the soil around the roots slightly damp. It should never be too wet.

Planting
Plant Hardy Geranium 'Birch Double' in a flower pot, window-box or in the garden. Would you like to plant it in a pot? Choose a pot with holes in the base and cover the bottom with a layer of potsherds or hydrograins. Put fresh potting compost in the pot and plant the Hardy Geranium 'Birch Double' at the right depth, spaced approximately 15 cm apart. Fill with compost and press firmly. Give it plenty of water immediately after planting. Place the pot in a sunny or partially sunny area. Line a porous pot with plastic or use a pot liner to prevent evaporation so that the soil dries out less quickly. Are you planting it in the ground? If so, then space the plants further apart. Hardy Geranium 'Birch Double' is great for the border Thanks to its rich flowering and compact growth pattern, Hardy Geranium 'Birch Double' makes an excellent border plant. For example, you can plant it along the edge of the border, or even create a unique effect by combining it with other border plants such as Echinacea Purpurea. This plant is also beautiful in flower pots and window-boxes.
Care
Hardy Geranium 'Birch Double' is an easy-to-grow perennial that requires minimal maintenance. Be sure to prevent the soil around its roots from drying out. Cut off completely faded flower stems to encourage a second flowering. The flowering will continue throughout the entire summer. In winter the stems above the ground will die back. Over winter, cover the plants with a layer of fallen leaves. In spring cut all of its stems off and soon there will be some new shoots visible above the ground. Cranesbill in winter Almost all garden geranium varieties change colour in autumn. Red and/or yellow - so nice to see! Most varieties do retain their foliage in the winter but will lose it if the winter is particularly severe. However, you will soon see them shoot up again in the spring and once again form a dense foliage. Some varieties do die back entirely before winter arrives so you do best to give them a mulch of leaf litter. A nice mulch of well-rotted manure in the spring will be appreciated, and then you can also cut back last year's foliage and you will soon see those new shoots appear.
Extra
The compact Hardy Geranium 'Birch Double' is a beautiful plant. Its bright pink double flowers grow up to 3.5 cm across. The foliage is very decorative and pleasantly covers the ground. In autumn, the leaves of ‘Birch Double’ often turn into red autumn shades.
