Planting
Plant Fuchsia 'Blue Angell' in a large planter with holes in the base. Cover the bottom with a layer of potsherds or hydro-pellets to promote drainage. Use fresh potting compost or special fuchsia compost to ensure abundant flowering. Add some potting compost to the pot and plant the fuchsia at the right depth. Fill up with more potting compost, press firmly in and water immediately after planting. This plant with thrive anywhere - sun or (part) shade. Fuchsia 'Blue Angel' in a pot  The large, spectacular flowers of the Fuchsia 'Blue Angel' are indispensable and create a fabulous feature in a mixed flower planter or window box. The large double flowers reach up to 10 cm across! This hanging fuchsia goes well with other fuchsias, busy lizzies (Impatiens) and foliage plants like Ivy. With porous planters use a plastic inner pot to prevent the soil from drying out too quickly.
Care
Fuchsias require a lot of water in the summer. Always keep the compost fairly moist but do not allow the roots to become water-logged. Protect the plants from very bright sun. For abundant flowering, we recommend adding plant food on a regular basis when watering. Regularly remove the dead flowers plus the seed ball and this will encourage your fuchsia to flower all summer long Keeping fuchsias over the winter Fuchsias 'Blue Angel' will not tolerate frost but it is possible to keep them over the winter. They need to be transferred to a cool, frost-free place before the first frosts and kept at a minimum of 5-10° C - an unheated greenhouse, dark shed or garage will suffice as they loose foliage anyway. Prune all branches back to half and remove all leaves. Do not allow the pot to dry out completely.
You could also dig your plants in for the winter. Place them pot and all in a 60 cm deep trench and cover with peat. Cover the whole trench with plastic sheeting to prevent things getting too wet. Pot up in spring with fresh potting compost and stand the pot in the warm, watering regularly. Your Fuchsia can go outdoors again from mid-May.
Extra
Fuchsias are one of the most popular patio plants. They are one of the few flowering potted plants that do well in a semi-shade while producing several flowers. This plant is native to damp mountain forests around the equator and is named after the famous botanist Leon Hart Fuchs.
The large-flowered fuchsia species that we know of for the garden are all cultivars. There are over 8,000 types of fuchsias, single-flowered, semi-double or double-flowered. The sepals of fuchsia are always beautifully coloured, usually in a different shade than the petals.
