Planting
Choose a large flower pot with holes in the base. Cover the bottom with potsherds or a small layer of hydro-pellets. Remove the plant from its nursery pot, add potting compost to its new flower pot and plant the Cyclamen persicum so that the top of the root ball is just below the edge of the top of the pot. Fill with soil and press firmly down. Water generously immediately after planting and put the flower pot in a light sheltered spot, preferably not in full sun. Cyclamen on the patio This cheerfully coloured mix of Cyclamen persicum is very beautiful in flower pots and baskets. Plant these plants close to each other so the pot will be completely filled with flowers. Combine the cyclamen with other potted winter flowers, like the white Christmas rose (Helleborus niger) or the Viburnum (Viburnum tinus ‘Gwenllian’).
Care
Water the plants generously, preferably in a saucer under the pot. After 30 mins empty any surplus water that is still left in the saucer, as the soil should not be too moist. Do not water in the crown of the plant as this can cause the corm to rot. For a rich flowering, we recommend regularly mixing plant food in the irrigation water approximately every two weeks. Remove any withered flowers and leaves. During a period of frost, temporarily put your cyclamen in a cool but frost-free place. Cyclamen are also suitable as an indoor plant. For good growth indoors, we recommend placing the plants in as cool a place as possible. For example in a north facing window.
Extra
The dainty Cyclamen persicum originally grew in Turkey. The kidney-shaped leaves are extremely attractive. The small flower stems grow elegantly above the mound of leaves and carry big white, pink, red or purple flowers. The petals bending backwards are reminiscent of butterflies. The small heart is a darker colour. The flowers of the Cyclamen persicum spread a subtle fragrance. Cyclamen persicum is one of the most striking winter flowerers.
