As soon as possible after receiving the Hyacinthoides hispanica bulbs they can be planted in the garden, a flower pot or in a planter. If not they must be kept in a frost-free area. Bulbs planted in a flower pot are not usually frost resistant. Plant the bulbs in a planting hole that is three times as deep as the height of the bulbs. A bulb of 2 cm should be planted in a 6 cm deep hole. The planting distance is about 3 to 5 cm. Loosen the soil well and plant the bulbs with the point facing upwards. Refill the planting hole and avoid walking over the soil. Plant the bulbs one by one with a small trowel. For larger groups make a wider hole and plant more bulbs in it. The bluebells grow best in loose, well-drained soil in a cool and partially shaded area of the garden.

Hyacinthoides hispanica in the garden

Plant the delightful mix of bluebells in drifts and they will look amazing and the more you plant the greater the effect. Plant in groups or divide 25 to 50 or even more flower bulbs evenly in the border. They can also be planted in a flower pot or patio planter. Make sure you use fresh potting compost and put a layer of gravel or hydro granules at the bottom of the pot. The bluebells will also look appealing planted in the lawn and under bushes!

Bluebells are maintenance free and left in the same place will continue to flower for many years in greater abundance. For a good growth, we recommend sprinkling Bakker's flower bulb fertiliser around the base of the leaves immediately after the flowering period. This will ensure a rich and healthy growth for the following year. After flowering, leave the foliage of the bluebells to die down naturally and cut back when it has turned yellow. The following spring you will once again be rewarded with an abundance of flowers. If you want to replant the Hyacinthoides hispanica bulbs then do so immediately after flowering. To protect the bulbs grown in a pot against frost, place the pot in a frost-free area or cover it with bubble wrap. Water during dry periods, don't let the soil dry out.

Hyacinthoides hispanica is rich flowering bulbous plant. The narrow leaves are a fresh green and the nodding bell-shaped flowers in violet-blue, pink and white appear in large quantities on tall firm stems. The flowers appear from May onwards. They look great scattered in the garden, under shrubs and also feels at home in the rock garden. Cut a small bunch for the living room and they will look so fresh!
