Planting
As soon as possible after receiving the Tulipa 'Regenboog' mix bulbs they can be planted in the garden, a flower pot or in a planter. If not they must be kept in a frost-free area. Bulbs planted in a flower pot are not usually frost resistant. Plant the bulbs in a planting hole that is three times as deep as the height of the bulbs. A bulb of 5 cm should be planted in a 15 cm deep hole. The planting distance of Tulipa 'Regenboog' mix is about 10 cm. Loosen the soil well and plant the bulbs with the point facing upwards. Refill the planting hole and avoid walking over the soil. Plant the tulips one by one with a small trowel or with a special bulb planter. For larger groups make a wider hole and plant more bulbs in it. The more flower bulbs planted, the greater effect the flowers will have. Plant the tulips in groups of at least 6 bulbs, or divide about 25 to 50 flower bulbs evenly over the garden border or flower bed.
Tulipa 'Regenboog' mix in a pot
Tulipa 'Regenboog' mix grows well in a flower pot or planter. Make sure you use fresh potting compost and put a layer of gravel or hydro granules at the bottom of the pot. Place the bulbs in a planting hole three times as deep as the height of the bulb. A bulb of 5 cm should be planted in a 15 cm deep hole. The planting distance of the tulips in a pot is about 7 cm. For extra colour in the pot, plant low growing anemones or forget-me-nots just above the tulip bulbs, which will flower beautifully below the tulips.
Care
The flowers of the Tulipa ‘Regenboog' mix are at their best the first year after planting. That’s why we recommend each year adding new and extra bulbs to make your borders and pots even more colourful. The tulip ‘Regenboog' mix grows best in loose, well-drained soil in a spot in full sun, partial shade or shade. To protect the flower bulbs grown in a pot from frost, move the pot to a frost-free area or cover it with bubble wrap. Water sufficiently during dry periods.
Tulip bulbs that have not yet been planted in the garden are sensitive to frost but once planted out in the garden, they are perfectly hardy.
Tulips planted in pots are more sensitive and will need to be protected in one of the following ways:

- Store your potted tulips in a frost-free area that doesn't get too warm - they do need the cold.
- Wrap the pot(s) in bubble wrap for extra protection.
- If you line the inside of their pot(s) with bubble wrap before adding soil and planting your bulbs, your tulips will already have some protection.
