Wild Flower Border

Wild Flower Border

No lawn mowing, instead you can sit back and enjoy the colourful flowers blooming between the blades of grass. This can be achieved by planting a mixture of perennials and annuals in a part of the lawn. This specially formulated wildflower border can be enjoyed from June to late summer!

The natural-looking floral blend is inspired by the flowery meadows and roadsides from a bygone era revived to suit today’s contemporary garden and can also be planted in a border in the lawn. The wildflowers in this border package are also fantastic to pick a natural looking field bouquet.

Yellow and purple

The complementary colours yellow and purple star in this wildflower border. These two colours enhance each other, drawing attention to themselves in the garden. Between the airy grasses the purple and yellow flowers get even more justice.

The first flowers of these cheerful garden plants appear in June. Until the end of the summer the garden is a spectacular sea of flowers. The wildflowers attract many beneficial insects, such as butterflies into your garden.

For a small or large garden

Small or large lawn, you can create a mini-meadow garden feature with these colourful wildflowers. Start by removing the grass where you are planting and plant the perennials and ornamental grasses together to create the effect of a natural looking border.

Mowing wild flowers

If the flowers have finished blooming and the flowers have had a chance to set seed the flowers can be cut. This can be done by using hedge clippers for a small garden and for larger areas using a garden strimmer. Leave the clippings for a few days to drop their seeds. It may seem a little drastic to cut down the plants but they will quickly grow giving a second flush of flowers. Continue mowing again in October. If you prefer not to mow at the end of the summer or there are still perennials in the flower meadow another option is for a one time mowing in spring.

You will find the following plants in this border:
Salvia nemorosa 'Ostfriesland', Deschampsia cespitosa, Penstemon 'Midnight', Campanula carpatica, Agastache 'Blue Fortune', Coreopsis verticillata 'Moonbeam', Calamintha nepeta ssp. nepeta, Campanula lactiflora 'Prichard's Variety'.

The plants we supply are sufficient for 2 square metres (2 x 1 metre, parcel size Medium), or 4.5 square metres
(3 x 1.5 metres, package size Large).
