Golden sweet flag
Long, yellowish green shoots. The attractive sweet flag 'Ogon' (Acorus gramineus) is a small aquatic plant. It's ideal for a small pond. The graceful 'Ogen' is ideal for naturally concealing the pond's edge. The aquatic plant is a waterside and marsh plant. We can plant the plant along the edge (bank) of our pond. Or we can plant the sweet flag up to 40 cm deep in the pond. We can plant this perennial all year round, The calamus flowers in the summer.
We prune the plant slightly to shape it with a pruning shear. We remove old leaves and dirt. To encourage good growth, we add minerals to the pond water and ensure that the water's hardness level (pH value and calcium to magnesium ratio) is maintained. Position the plant in full sun or partial shade.

Planting
This pond plant, low-growing calamus (Acorus) is best planted in a pond basket. Line the basket with sacking and use special pond medium to fill it. Plant your low-growing calamus in the basket and fill it up with more medium. Cover with the extra flaps of sacking and add a layer of grit or pebbles. Stand the basket around 10-15 cm deep in your pond. If you don't have pond ledges and it's too deep, use bricks to bring the height up. Plant in full sun or part shade.
Using low-growing calamus with other plants
Low-growing calamus (Acorus) is a decorative aquatic that will add a really natural look to your pond. Combine the low-growing calamus, with for example, the Anagallis tenella (bog Pimpernell) and yellow Iris (Iris pseudacorus) along the edge of a (natural or otherwise) pond. These pond edge plants will be sure to attract all kinds of wildlife.
Care
Low-growing calamus (Acorus) is a semi-aquatic that is very undemanding. In autumn snip off all dead foliage and remove it from the pond. The calamus forms rhizomes and is completely hardy.
If the whole plant gets too large, remove the low-growing calamus entirely from the pond and split the rhizome into smaller pieces - replant only one or two smaller sections.

Extra
Calamus has white spike-like flowers that are rather insignificant in decorative values. On the other hand the narrow reedy foliage is quite lovely. The calamus forms rhizomes and is completely hardy.
Acorus (Calamus) is classified under Acoraceae. This plant will thrive in shallow water (up to 15 cm deep).
