Planting
The aquatic plant Alisma plantago-aquatica is best planted in a small pond basket. Cover the basket with jute and fill the pond with special soil. Place the water plantain in the basket and fill with earth. Cover everything with the remaining jute and sprinkle with a layer of gravel. Place the basket at a depth of 10-30 cm in the pond. If your pond is not too shallow, you can place your basket within a pile of stones. Place this aquatic plant in the full sun or partial shade. Combining the water plantain with other plants The water plantain (Alisma plantago-aquatica) is an ornamental aquatic plant that gives your pond a natural appearance. Alisma plantago-aquatica can easily be combined with the flowering rush (Butomus umbellatus) and the yellow iris (Iris pseudacorus) along the edge of a natural pond. These marginal plants are bound to attract all manner of tiny creatures.
Care
Alisma plantago-aquatica is an aquatic plant that requires minimal maintenance. Cut back any dead foliage in autumn and clear from the pond.

The water plantain has thick fibrous roots.

If the stolons become too big, take the water plantain out of the pond in May. Divide the stolon into smaller sections and re-plant only a few.

Extra
The water plantain forms thick rhizomes and can grow up to one meter in height.

This genus has also been classified in its own family: the water-plantains (Alismataceae).
This plant is suitable for shallow water (0 - 30 cm).
