Planting
Festuca (Festuca sp.) ornamental grass will thrive best in the garden.
Prepare a wide hole and loosen the soil with a fork. Improve clay soil with a mix of sharp sand. Plant your ornamental grass at the correct depth - the top of the root ball should come to just below soil level. Fill the hole with soil, heel well in and water immediately.
This ornamental grass will do well in full sun in well-drained soil. Festuca ornamental grass in your garden
The unusual leaf colour of Festuca (Festuca sp.) looks perfect in an Oriental type garden. The drier the soil, the bluer the grass will become. This ornamental grass will look very decorative in an attractive planter too, as well as between gravel or in the rockery.
Ornamental grasses look very striking in the border too. Try them with some dwarf asters or a pretty iris like Iris barbata 'Circle Step' or the blue Iris laevigata - all great combinations for a mixed flower border.
Or try planting up a 'prairie garden'. A mix of various grass varieties and flowering hardy perennials such as Rudbeckia and Bee Balm (the Bergamot plant, Monarda) and Gaura lindheimeri (Lindheimer's Bee Blossom) that all stand well together without the help of fencing. Such natural looking gardens are just lovely to behold and are very maintenance free.

Care

This ornamental grass (Festuca sp.) is very undemanding. Do make sure that soil around the root ball remains moist. On the other hand, if the soil is too moist, that won't be appreciated either, especially in the winter.
All stems will die back in the winter so it's a good idea to cover the plant with a layer of fallen leaves. In March cut off all dead leaves and you will soon see new shoots appear.

Extra
Ornamental grass (Festuca sp.) is prevalent all over the world. The leaves are often blue and can be seen even in the winter. If the winter is severe, the plant will die back but it will make a comeback in the spring again.
