Planting
The hanging geranium is one of the strongest patio plants. Choose a pot with holes in the base, cover the bottom with a layer of potsherds or gravel. Put some potting compost mixed with some sharp sand in the pot. Plant the root ball at the correct depth, fill the pot with potting compost and press firmly. Leave enough space for the irrigation water. After planting your Tyrolean hanging geraniums water immediately. Place the plants in a position with complete sunshine, they will then produce more flowers.
Hanging geraniums look elegant in hanging baskets
These incredibly rich flowering hanging geraniums look amazing in window-boxes. Hanging baskets also make an excellent home for this geranium variety. The flexible stems hang gracefully over the edge of the basket. Enjoy a beautiful combination planted with the stunning colours of Pelargonium Peltatum, Calibrachoa, Fuchsia and Cuphea Llavea 'Tiny Mice'.
Care
Your hanging geraniums will need watering on a regular basis to prevent the soil from drying out. These plants are drought tolerant so best to make sure that the soil around the roots definitely shouldn't be too wet. Keep the roots moist but overwatering could lead to root rot, so ensure proper drainage in the flower pot. To prolong flowering we recommend regularly deadheading the faded flowers to encourage a second flowering. For an extra rich flowering, we advise when watering in the summer that you add plant food to the water on a regular basis. Most geraniums are grown as annuals but with care these geraniums can be preserved throughout the winter.
Extra
The official name of this plant is Pelargonium Peltatum. The hanging geraniums belonging to this group have smooth, thick leaves that can store plenty of moisture. They are known for their 'succulent leaves'. Due to this 'moisture reservoir', these plants have a good drought tolerance and will last a long time in flower pots and planters in an area with complete sunshine. Its trailing stems are richly decorated with flower heads.
