Summersweet ‘Pink Spire’ - Hardy plant
Summersweet ‘Pink Spire’ - Hardy plant
If you buy deciduous shrubs in autumn they might not be looking quite as beautiful as usual. The big benefit of planting shrubs in autumn is that by spring they will be well rooted in the garden and ready to burst into growth.

Make sure the root ball of Clethra alnifolia 'Pink Spire' is well-moistened by soaking it in a bucket of lukewarm water before planting. Prepare a large hole in fertile, moist soil. Improve poor garden soil by mixing in some compost and garden fertiliser. Plant the root ball of ‘Pink Spire’ at the correct depth in the hole. The top of the roots should be just slightly below ground level. Fill the hole with soil and press firmly. Water immediately after planting. ’Pink Spire’ grows best in full sun, semi shade or even a shady area.
Clethra alnifolia 'Pink Spire' is not a strong grower, so even a moderate pruning is sufficient. In March, you can slightly prune it. If necessary, in time, prune more severe in order to rejuvenate the bush. Remove root suckers throughout the growing season if the bush becomes too wide, but this is not absolutely necessary. Water more during dry periods as dry soil is not good for this plant. This bush requires minimal maintenance.
Clethra alnifolia 'Pink Spire' is not a well known summer flowering shrub. The beautiful pink flowers can be enjoyed in June/July. The flowers exude a strong fragrance that resembles the scent of the Lily of the Valley. Your garden shouldn't miss out on this lovely shrub in the frgrance garden! In autumn, its leaves have a stunning yellow hue. This bush is gorgeous in large groups but also sweet planted as a solitary shrub. As it is of moderate size, it is also ideal for the smaller gardens.
