Planting+

These seed tapes require no prior treatment and they are ready-to-use.

How to Sow

In the garden, April-July.

Plant in the garden, preferably in full sun from April to June. Fork the soil loose to at least 30 cm. Draw a straight furrow of around 4 cm deep and label the row. Lay the seed tape along the furrow and cut to length, cover with 0.5 cm soil, press lightly down and sprinkle with water. Extra rows at 20 cm apart.

The seed will germinate in 6-14 days.

Care+

Requires NO extra fertiliser to improve quality at all. Do water extra during dry periods and keep the bed weed-free - your onion plants will then thrive.

Harvesting

Harvest from July to October.

Onions can be harvested from summer onwards. Dig them up one for one, using a small gardening trowel - loosen the soil around the base of the leaves and pull up. Then will then need drying - just lie them in the sun (off the ground somewhere sheltered) until the leaves have turned yellow and dry. They can then be stored long term. Do harvest all before the autumn rains.

Extra+

Onions have been grown for at least 3,000 years! Spreading from Central Asia (Iran and Afghanistan) to China, then about 2,000 years ago via India, Egypt and Greece to Italy and further! Nowadays they are used throughout the world to flavour all sorts of dishes.
