Water sparingly, but just enough to keep the roots moist and avoid wetting the foliage. During the flowering period, add a little fertiliser every 2 weeks when watering using a fertiliser for flowering plants. Cut away the flower stems completely to encourage healthy regrowth.
Plant Primula obconica immediately after receiving it. Choose a beautiful flower pot, with holes in the base (for drainage) and cover the bottom with pieces of broken pot or a layer of hydro granules. Add fresh potting compost in the pot and space the plants approx. 15 cm with the root balls at a suitable depth, just below the surface. Fill the planting hole with compost, press firmly down and water immediately after planting. Place the pot in a cool, partially shaded spot. If you are using a porous pot, line the inside with plastic, or use a plastic inner flower pot. This prevents water from evaporating, so that the root ball is less likely to dry out.
Primula obconica starts flowering in spring and is known for producing flowers in cheerful colours. It has smooth foliage in a beautiful soft-green colour.
The Latin word obconica is derived from Greek and means 'inverse' or opposite. This refers to the colours of the natural variety, which is also a feature of these cultivars. The ‘inverse’ flower shape manifests itself in the fact that these plants have a white border rather than a white centre.
Primulas have a natural substance (primine), to which some people are allergic. This is especially true of primulas that grow in the wild. The primulas of the Primula obconica Touch Me®’ series is free of primine, and therefore doesn’t cause itching. As the name suggests, you can safely touch these primulas!
