Plant your Primula obconica in a pretty plant pot upon receipt (could be several together actually). Use a pot with holes in the bottom and layer the base with potsherds or hydro-pellets. Add fresh potting compost and plant Primula obconica deep enough with a planting distance about 15 cm apart. Fill up with more fresh potting compost and press firmly in. Water immediately. Stand the pot in a cool spot in part shade. Line your pot with plastic prior to planting if it is a porous one, or use a plastic pot and stand it in a pretty planter. This helps to prevent the plant from drying out too quickly.
Water sparingly, but just enough to keep the roots moist and avoid wetting the foliage. During the flowering period, add a little fertiliser every 2 weeks when watering using a fertiliser for flowering plants. Cut away the flower stems completely to encourage healthy regrowth.
Primula obconica flowers early in the spring with lovely colourful flowers. The leaf is smooth, in a pretty, pale green.
Obconia comes from the Latin and Greek for 'wrong side out' which refers to the way the flowers have white edging instead of a white centre like the original cultivars have.
Primulas contain a natural allergen called primine that is often troublesome to some people, especially those varieties that grow in the wild. Primula obconica Touch Me® range, as well as Primula obconica Pricanto® range are primine-free so no nasty itching involved at all. These primrose can be touched (the name's a give-away).
