Fritillaria persica 'Ivory Bells'
Imperial white
An imperial flower. For a radiant spring garden! The Persian crown imperial lily 'Ivory Bells' (Fritillaria persica) has bell-shaped white flowers with a green centre. A beautiful contrast with the sea-green foliage! Plant the bulbs in the autumn. In well-drained soil. The flowers bloom in the spring.
The bulbs can be planted in open ground or in a pot. Potted bulbs aren't frost hardy, so bring the pot indoors or protect the plant with bubble wrap. Space the bulbs out when planting in open ground. The distance between plants is three times the width of the bulb. Plant the bulb the depth of three times the bulb's height. Plant the bulbs in full sun or partial shade. Water the bulb immediately after planting. Don't water it until the soil feels dry to the touch. The bulbs come in organic packaging. Made of 100% natural materials and 100% recyclable!
All of our flower bulbs have the Holland Selection A quality mark, and come with a 100% guarantee that they will grow and bloom. You can be certain that the flower bulbs will grow.

Planting+

Persian Lily bulbs (Fritillaria persica) should be planted as soon as possible upon receipt in the garden, or into pots and planters. Store frost-free until planting! Potted bulbs are more than likely to be frost sensitive.
Plant these bulbs in a hole 3 times deeper than the size of the bulb - so a 2 cm bulb goes in a 6 cm hole. Plant Fritillaria persica bulbs 3 cm apart. Fork the soil well loose and plant the bulbs roots down. Fill the hole and water generously. Fritillaria persica will thrive in a fertile, well drained soil in your garden in full sun or part shade.

Fritillaria persica in a large planter

Persian Lily (Fritillaria persica) with also thrive in a large planter for on the patio/decking. Layer the base with hydro-pellets to maintain good drainage. Always use fresh potting compost and add some sharp sand or gravel. Plant the bulbs 3 times deeper than the size of the bulb - a 2 cm bulb goes in a 6 cm hole. Do use a decent sized planter because these are pretty big plants. Protect the potted bulbs from frost - you could try lining the pot with bubble wrap before planting. If not, do store it frost-free, or wrap the whole pot in bubble wrap. Don't forget to water in dry periods.

Care+

Persian Lily bulbs (Fritillaria persica) can stay in the same spot for years on end. The bulbs will thrive in drier soil with good drainage. You could plant them in the border or in a rockery and allow them to naturalise. Planted in groups scattered over the whole border, they will eventually weave through the entire bed. Such a lovely thing to see.
Cut off the overblown flower stems after flowering and all the energy collected by the foliage will go into the bulb for the following year.
if you grow these bulbs in a pot, keep it pretty dry once all foliage has died back. Pot up again in spring using fresh potting compost and water now and then.

Extra+

Persian Lily (Fritillaria persica) originated in Asia Minor - across Turkey, Syria and into Iran, Iraq and Israel. The hanging bell flowers come in a very dark purple colour. These unusual Fritillaria plants are sure to be noticed, especially when spread in groups across your garden or in large plant pots on the patio/decking.
