Peperomia polybotrya 'Raindrop'
Air-purifying radiator plant
Drop-shaped leaves that feel thick. The Peperomia polybotrya 'Raindrop' looks more like a Chinese money plant and a succulent than like itself! But it is actually still a pepper plant. This very hardy tropical plant is very easy to care for! Water the plant weekly in summer, and once every two weeks in winter. Forgetting once in a while is not the end of the world! The plant's roots shouldn't stay wet for too long moderately moist soil is optimal. The radiator plant doesn't need much light, so don't put the plant in full sun. Because the plant is so hardy, it can tolerate a darker place too! The Peperomia also has an air-purifying effect. Pleasure without much effort!

What do I need?

  • Decorative pot

The Peperomia is delivered in a standard nursery pot. Put the nursery pot in a nice decorative pot and water the plant immediately. Put the flower pot in a warm, bright spot but not in full sunlight.
  • The Peperomia can also be planted in a larger flower pot so the plant has more room to grow. Cover the bottom of the inner pot with a layer of hydro grains.
  • Then add a layer of potting soil to the pot.
  • Remove the nursery pot and plant the Peperomia to 1 to 2 centimetres below the edge so there is room for the irrigation water.
  • Fill the pot with fresh potting soil and press it down slightly.

What do I need?

  •     Watering can
  •     Plant food

Water the Peperomia when the soil feels dry as this plant doesn't like to have wet feet. Don't feel bad if you skipped watering your plant ... that's no problem. Adding a bit of plant food to the irrigation water each month will give the plant some extra strength. Once the flowers have blossomed, you can clip them off. With the proper care, the plant will flourish again next year. The Peperomia loves warmth. Put the flower pot in a warm, bright spot but not in full sunlight.

This peperomia creates quite a striking presence in the living room. The plant has ribbed leaves with alternating light and dark green sections on the leaves. It is a compact grower which originated from the jungles of Brazil.

Peperomia is a tropical plant with many varieties and belongs in the family of Piperaceae - there are all varieties, sizes and colours! Many of these actually grow in trees. It is a known member of the white and also the black pepper family (Piper nigrum).
