Planting+
Parsley seed requires no prior treatment but you can encourage germination by soaking overnight in lukewarm water.
Care+
Water well during dry periods through the summer and keep the bed free of weeds. This will help the parsley plants continue to grow well. The plants don’t usually flower the first year but if they do shoot, you can of course delay flowering by removing the entire flower stem at the heart of the plant.
Herbs on patio or decking
The herb pots can be stood outdoors from mid-May. Acclimatise them by standing them in a shady spot for an hour longer every day. After 5 days they will be ready to stay outdoors in a sunny, partly-shaded spot.
For convenience, keep the pots near the kitchen door or window and then you will always have fresh herbs to hand when you are cooking.
