Pruning is not necessary. Unless the bush becomes too large. Plant the hydrangea in partial shade. The soil should be kept damp. Give them extra water during dry periods.
A striking image!
If you buy deciduous shrubs in autumn they might not be looking quite as beautiful as usual. The big benefit of planting shrubs in autumn is that by spring they will be well rooted in the garden and ready to burst into growth.

Planting Hydrangea 'Limelight' with other plants
The large flower plumes of the Panicle Hydrangea 'Limelight' will attract a lot of attention, which makes it ideal as an ornamental specimen bush. This profusely flowering shrub is also beautiful in the shrubbery and looks great when planted alongside Pallidaus 'Marie Simon' (American Lilac).
You could also fill a large flower bed with these fantastic Panicle Hydrangeas - just magical.
Water your Panicle Hydrangea 'Limelight' more often during dry periods as this plant doesn't tolerate dry soil.
Pruning Plumed Hydrangea
Hydrangea paniculata 'Limelight' flowers on this year's wood. This means you can prune your hydrangea paniculata every spring to about 40 cm above ground level. This encourages strong, compact growth to about 1.75 metres. If you would prefer the shrub to grow large(r), pruning is not strictly necessary and unpruned, this shrub can reach 4 metres.
Panicle Hydrangea 'Limelight' is a relatively new variety with huge white plumes in creamy white with green accents. They fade to brown.
The shape of the plume on this variety of hydrangea is nothing more than a flower head where the middle continues growing out. It is really therefore related to the common hydrangeas with rounded flower heads as well as the flat ones (lacecaps) of hydrangea macrophylla.
