Planting+

Make sure the roots of Panicle Hydrangea 'Limelight' are well-moistened by soaking them in a bucket of lukewarm water before planting. Prepare a suitable hole in moist, humus-rich soil. Improve your garden soil by adding some compost to it. Plant the Panicle Hydrangea 'Limelight' at the appropriate depth - the top of the roots should be slightly below ground level. Fill the hole and press firmly down. Water immediately after planting.

Panicle Hydrangea 'Limelight' grows best in a sunny or partially shaded area.

Planting Hydrangea 'Limelight' with other plants

The large flower plumes of the Panicle Hydrangea 'Limelight' will attract a lot of attention, which makes it ideal as an ornamental specimen bush. This profusely flowering shrub is also beautiful in the shrubbery and looks great when planted alongside Pallidaus 'Marie Simon' (American Lilac).

You could also fill a large flower bed with these fantastic Panicle Hydrangeas - just magical.

Care+

Water your Panicle Hydrangea 'Limelight' more often during dry periods as this plant doesn't tolerate dry soil.

Pruning Plumed Hydrangea

Hydrangea paniculata 'Limelight' flowers on this year's wood. This means you can prune your hydrangea paniculata every spring to about 40 cm above ground level. This encourages strong, compact growth to about 1.75 metres. If you would prefer the shrub to grow large(r), pruning is not strictly necessary and unpruned, this shrub can reach 4 metres.

Extra+

Panicle Hydrangea 'Limelight' is a relatively new variety with huge white plumes in creamy white with green accents. They fade to brown.

The shape of the plume on this variety of hydrangea is nothing more than a flower head where the middle continues growing out. It is really therefore related to the common hydrangeas with rounded flower heads as well as the flat ones (lacecaps) of hydrangea macrophylla.
