Just stand your Myrmedocia in its nursery pot, in a pretty planter, or on a saucer full of hydro-granules to catch excess drainage. Water immediately. Myrmecodia is such an easy plant to have around.
Myrmecodia will thrive in a warm and light spot in a nice cosy living room. This is a strong, easily grown houseplant that will require watering weekly but do allow it to dry out in between waterings. Myrmecodia can be at home anywhere indoors but will thank you for keeping it out of full sunlight.
This particular Myrmecodia flowers with white trumpet-shaped flowers when it feels properly 'at home'. Myrmecodia is usually grown specifically for its unusually pretty shape. These plants are native to mangrove swamps in Southern Asia. Myrmecodia is what is known as an epiphytic plant - it grows on the branches of the mangroves without removing any nutrients from the mangrove itself. It forms a swollen stem just above the roots. These stems are hollow and in the wild are colonised by a special species of ant which provide extra nutrition for the plant. European ants do not do this.
Myrmecodia is classified under Rubiaceae.
